Fresh ginseng has always been hostage to the calendar. Roots come out of the ground between mid-September and mid-October. Everyone sells at once, prices sag, and for the other eleven months buyers faced either dried product or dwindling, appreciating fresh stock.
Farmers called the pain plainly: "one season of harvest, a year of waiting."
On August 8, the Wanliang Changbai Mountain Wild Ginseng Market formally opened — purpose-built to break the seasonal trap:
Fresh roots can now trade 365 days a year.
No longer forced sellers. Hold stock in cold storage, release when prices recover, and capture more of the value they grow.
Smooth supply means plannable menus and formulations — fresh-format products no longer disappear from shelves after October.
Less seasonal volatility, more professional inventory finance, and a stronger base for export contracts that require year-round fulfillment.
The wild-ginseng market is one of three planned venues in Wanliang (the 2.55-billion-yuan Chinese Medicinal Materials Trading Center is under construction), designed to form a complete "fresh + dried + medicinal materials" trading complex.
Year-round fresh availability raises a quality question: cold-stored roots differ from peak-season roots. Ask suppliers for storage duration and method — properly handled cold-chain roots hold quality well, but transparency here is a mark of a professional seller.
